A birthday bouquet doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to feel like the person it’s for. Sunflowers for the friend who’s always smiling, roses in soft shades for your mum, or a bouquet bursting with colour for someone who could do with cheering up. Getting it right is easier than it looks once you know where to start.
At Floristería Mallorca we make birthday bouquets every week in our workshop in Palma and deliver them to homes, offices and hotels all over the island. We’ll walk you through the flowers that work best, how to choose for the person you have in mind and how to have your bouquet delivered the same day – even to a hotel reception if they’re celebrating on holiday.
Birthdays are all about joy: bright colours, open blooms and a generous bouquet say “happy birthday” before anyone has even read the card. Here are the flowers we recommend most often.
A mixed bouquet: always a safe bet
If you’re not sure which flowers they like, go for a mixed bouquet. The Rosalía mixed bouquet has been the most ordered in our shop over the past year. It brings together gerberas, roses and lilies, among other flowers, and it’s clearly made for a celebration. The colours vary with the flowers we have in that day, but the cheerful feel stays the same.
Sunflowers: sunshine at any age
Sunflowers are pure good cheer. They suit a friend, a colleague or a teenager, and they brighten up any room. Our sunflower bouquet is another of our most popular, and there’s more choice in our sunflower range.
Roses: let the colour do the talking
Roses work for almost any occasion, but each colour says something different:
Yellow: joy and friendship. Perfect for a friend’s birthday, like this bouquet of yellow roses.
Pink: affection and tenderness, lovely for a mum, grandma or sister. You’ll find them among our coloured roses.
White: quiet elegance, for anyone who loves a classic. Have a look at our white rose bouquets.
Red: love. Keep these for your partner’s birthday – see our red roses.
Tulips, gerberas and alstroemerias: colour that doesn’t take itself too seriously
If the gift is going to an office or to someone who travels a lot, a plant is a good idea. Our three-stem orchid stays in bloom for a long time and needs very little looking after.
What flowers to give for a birthday, depending on who they’re for
Buying for a man? Think about what he likes, not what men are supposed to like. If in doubt, sunflowers, yellow roses or a plant rarely go wrong.
Milestone birthdays: a rose for every year?
For an 18th, a 30th or a 50th, some people give one rose for every year. It’s a gesture that sticks in the memory. With our rose bouquets, you can choose how many roses you’d like. For the bigger numbers, there’s our bouquet of 26 to 50 red roses, as well as XXL bouquets of 50 to 101 roses in pink, white or yellow. Unless they’re for your partner, go for pink, white or yellow rather than red.
Good to know: if the person celebrating is from Russia or Ukraine, give an odd number of flowers (if their age is an even number, add one more). Even numbers are for funerals there.
The card and the little things that count
Every bouquet includes a free card with your message. If you’re stuck for words, Bloomi, our card-message assistant, will suggest ideas when you order.
Remember to sign the card. For privacy reasons, the person receiving the flowers won’t know who sent them unless your name is on it.
Want to round off the gift? Our gift sets and extras include chocolates, soft toys and a bottle for the birthday toast.

Frequently asked questions about birthday flowers
What are the most popular birthday flowers?
Colourful mixed bouquets, sunflowers and coloured roses. At our shop, the Rosalía mixed bouquet has been the most ordered over the past year.
Can you give red roses for a birthday?
Yes, if they’re for your partner: red roses are all about love. For family and friends, yellow, pink or white roses are a better choice.
What flowers should I give a man for his birthday?
It’s more about his personal style than his gender. Sunflowers, yellow roses, bold colours or a plant such as an orchid usually go down well.
Are there any flowers to avoid for a birthday?
In Spain, white chrysanthemums and wreath-style arrangements are associated with funerals. And if the person is from Russia or Ukraine, give an odd number of flowers.
Can you deliver a birthday bouquet in Mallorca today?
Yes, from Monday to Saturday, whether it’s going to a home, an office or a hotel reception. As a guide, order before 13:00 for afternoon delivery or before 9:00 for morning delivery (on Saturdays we only deliver in the morning). There are no deliveries on Sundays.
