Tulip and alstroemeria bouquet: a small, elegant gift, delivered today in Mallorca

Ten tulips and several stems of alstroemeria with mixed greenery make up this small, elegant alstroemeria and tulip bouquet. Its colours are never quite the same two days running.

It leaves our Palma workshop hand-tied and travels with our own delivery team to the door, anywhere in Mallorca: order in time and it arrives today. The photo is real and shows one example: pink tulips, a few still closed, and pink and white alstroemeria with their typical fine streaks, set among green foliage.

What's in the tulip and alstroemeria bouquet

10 tulips
They keep growing in the vase, and any that arrive closed open up at home.

Alstroemeria
The “lily of the Incas”: several streaked flowers per stem, and longer-lasting than tulips.

Colours of the day
They change with each morning's flowers; the photo shows pink and white among the green.

Good occasions for it

Birthday
A neat, pretty bouquet to say happy birthday without fuss; it fits on a coffee table or an office desk.

To say thank you
For your child's teacher, a colleague or the neighbour who always takes in your parcels: thanks, in tulips.

Mother's Day
A delicate gift for your mum, whether you live on the island too or are sending it from abroad.

To brighten a day
No occasion needed: flowers for someone who is having a tough week.

How to care for tulips and alstroemeria

  1. Once unwrapped: give each stem a fresh slanted cut, pull off any alstroemeria leaves below the waterline and place the bouquet in a spotless vase with cool water, filled only part-way.
  2. Daily, or every other day: change the water and turn the vase a little; tulips keep growing towards the light, so turning it helps them stay straighter.
  3. Where to put it: away from the fruit bowl, radiators and direct sun. And keep freshly cut daffodils in a separate vase: their sap damages tulips.

FAQ about the tulip and alstroemeria bouquet

Astromelia, astromelie or alstroemeria?

They are all the same flower. Its botanical name is Alstroemeria, after the Swedish naturalist Clas Alströmer; in English it is also called Peruvian lily or lily of the Incas, and in Spain people say “astromelia”, which is where spellings such as “astromelies” come from. It is native to South America, carries several flowers on each stem, has fine streaks on its inner petals and outlasts tulips in the vase. If you like it on its own, see our alstroemeria bouquet: 15 to 30 alstroemeria in mixed colours, without greenery.

What's in the bouquet, and how big is it?

Ten tulips, several stems of alstroemeria (each with a few flowers) and mixed greenery. It is a small bouquet, meant as a thoughtful gesture rather than a statement piece, and it comes wrapped in paper with a ribbon. The photo shows the real bouquet, so it gives you a fair idea of the size; the wrapping can change, though: in the picture it is mint-green polka-dot paper over kraft paper, with a pink ribbon.

Will it arrive in the same colours as the photo?

Not necessarily. We make the bouquet with the flowers that reach our workshop that morning, and which shades of tulip and alstroemeria are available changes day by day. In the photo it has pink tulips and pink and white alstroemeria. What doesn't change is the recipe: ten tulips, alstroemeria, greenery and the small size. Need a particular colour, or more tulips? Our tulip bouquet lets you pick both colour and quantity, in bunches of 10.

Are tulips a good gift?

Yes, especially when you want a thoughtful gesture without going over the top: being small, this bouquet sits nicely on an office desk, in a hotel room or in a flat with little space. In flower symbolism, tulips stand for affection and alstroemeria for friendship, so it works just as well for a friend, your mum or a colleague. A card is included for your own message.

How long will it last?

As a guide, around a week if you change the water often and keep the bouquet away from heat. Alstroemeria usually outlasts tulips: when the tulips are over, take them out and move the alstroemeria to a smaller vase to enjoy for a few more days.

Why do tulips bend in the vase?

Because they keep growing after they are cut and turn towards the light: it does not mean they are wilting. That is why a bouquet with tulips changes shape a little each day, which is part of its charm. If you prefer them straighter, turn the vase every now and then.
