Summer in Mallorca brings intense heat, direct sun and sudden temperature changes when flowers move into air-conditioned spaces. For a cut-flower bouquet, choosing the right varieties and knowing where it will be displayed can make a real difference.

Sunflowers, carnations, gerberas, chrysanthemums, statice, eryngium and some lily arrangements can stay fresh for several days when kept in clean water and out of direct sun. Availability changes throughout the season, so we make each bouquet with the freshest flowers suited to its destination and occasion.

Why summer is challenging for flowers in Mallorca

High temperatures speed up blooming and allow bacteria to build up more quickly in vase water. Travel time, hours of sun and direct air-conditioning draughts also matter. No cut flower is immune to heat, but some varieties tend to perform better, and good care can help them stay fresh for several days.

When ordering, tell us whether the bouquet is going to a home, hotel, villa, terrace or outdoor celebration. We can then recommend a suitable arrangement and presentation, always subject to fresh-flower availability.

Cut flowers that tend to last well in warm weather

• Sunflowers: bright and full of character, they are a summery choice for birthdays, thank-you gifts and cheerful surprises. Explore our sunflower bouquets.
• Carnations and chrysanthemums: these often offer good vase life when given clean water and a cool position.
• Gerberas: they bring plenty of colour and do best in a very clean vase with shallow water.
• Fresh statice and eryngium: they add texture and tend to keep their appearance well. Fresh statice needs water and should not be confused with dried flowers.
• Proteas: striking blooms that can work well in tropical-style arrangements, depending on availability.

If you do not need a particular variety, a mixed flower bouquet lets the florist choose the freshest suitable combination available that day.

Which bouquet to choose for the delivery location

• For a home or birthday: a mixed bouquet or sunflowers is a cheerful, versatile gift.
• For a hotel, villa or someone without a vase: choose a flower arrangement, as it arrives ready on its own base.
• For a holiday home: if you want decoration that does not depend on water, consider dried or preserved flowers.
• For a terrace or outdoor event: arrange delivery as close as possible to the start time, keep the bouquet in shade and move it indoors afterwards.

How to care for a bouquet in summer

• Start with a clean vase: wash it thoroughly and add the flower food supplied with the bouquet, if included.
• Change the water frequently: it can turn cloudy sooner in summer, so replace it every day or two.
• Trim the stems: cut one or two centimetres diagonally with a clean tool and remove any leaves below the waterline.
• Avoid sun, heat and draughts: choose a bright spot away from direct sun, hot appliances and air-conditioning.
• Keep the bouquet away from ripening fruit: the ethylene it releases can speed up flower ageing.
